moving from smjk to smk indeed is an unforgetable experience. i have had many culture-shocks here.
firstly, is the namelist. in smjk, the names are short. in smk, names are LOOOONNGG! eventhough the number of students is smaller, but i tell you, being a form teacher, the paperwork which involves writing students' names can drown you! in addition, some students cant even spell their names right! true also, because there are so many ways of spelling 'mohd'.
secondly, in smjk, there is no non-sense of wondering/loitering at the corridor or whatsoever. but here, hoho... it's just like varsity life, students would enter the class only when the teacher arrives. where were they? in the toilet mostly, and the staircase and the corridor. some of them ask the permission to go to the loo, but only to find them in the canteen, yam cha!
thirdly, teachers are not always there to enter the class, especially the weak classes. sometimes, i was the only teacher teaching in the block! imagine, there you are trying to teach, but the classes upstairs, downstairs and next to you are so noisy, alamak! to certain extents, there was once where students upstairs had a riot, they started chanting and the whole block was shaking! like earthquake! outrageous!
but i would say the students here respect teachers more. at least students greet me, in their broken english though (they cant even tell when to say 'good morning' and 'good afternoon', 'sir' and 'madam'). in smjk, if you piss a student, woo, she will hate you for the rest of her school life, and will show faces to you at the corridor.
however, teachers here surely have more time, making it possible to prepare the lessons. good.
